Spring 2020: Behind-the-Sock - Sockwell

Spring 2020: Behind-the-Sock

Written By: Mercedes Marchand, VP of Design at Sockwell

As a creative, I am always watchful of what’s going on in our culture. I never stop looking and feeling as I observe our world. It's in my nature. At the start of every season, I dive into the worlds of color, fabric, and cultural movements from a global perspective. I look at art, architecture, food, horticulture, active, fashion, as well as politics. I observe what’s going on in the hearts and minds of people. People just like you. The ones reading this.

As a wellness brand, I am passionate about putting everything I observe through the filter of finding comfort solutions both in the physical and emotional form. It's always been about Feeling Better in Style. We care about you, and we care about the planet we live in. As we work to find sock solutions for your needs, we are making conscious choices toward sustainable manufacturing.

With that said, our collection this season was inspired by the movement of creating comfort, of staying home and creating your own personal happy place. Less FOMO (fear of missing out) and more self-care.

Let's take a look at the Behind-the-Sock designs and inspiration for our Spring 2020 collection.

Colors

Every season we add (and subtract) colors for our custom color palette to evolve our collection and align it with trends and cultural movements. This season, we welcomed Ash Heather and Jade as new colors.

Ash Heather is a soft, chalky neutral that adds a soothing and airy tone to our range. It mixes beautifully with all of our soft, neutral pastels and mid-tones to encourage a quieter state of being.

The color Jade reflects the "greening movement" and helps oxygenate our collection. The green tone has fresh and healing qualities that roll a cultural focus into our color palette.

New Styles

A new season wouldn't be complete without a few new, fresh styles. We always listen to your feedback and look for ways to improve our lines. For Spring 2020, we've added new styles and updated some of our existing styles to accommodate the people that matter most. You.

Lifestyle Compression

Sockwell Spot On Merino Wool Compression SocksOur Spot On design is a women's moderate compression with a graduated dot pattern that reflects the density of compression. In other words, the compression is denser at the ankle (a tighter dot pattern) and lessens as you work your way up to the calf (a spacious dot pattern). The colors in this design represent a soothing sanctuary for your feet.

One of my personal favorites is the Featherweight Fancy. It’s an updated women's style to achieve the perfect, ultra-light support and fiber function that fits into your sleekest footwear. The subtle pattern was inspired by beautiful Japanese Kimonos.

Another new women's style is the Trio. Featuring firm compression, it’s perfect for demanding days when you need an extra boost. The pattern has a subtle reference to Native American textiles in a sophisticated flavor.

The Foothold is one of my favorite men's styles that we added to the line. It offers moderate compression in a crew sock for the guy who doesn't want to wear an Over-the-Calf sock. Warmer days? The Foothold is also an excellent choice for when less fabric feels right.

Sport Compression

We refreshed our fitness collection by updating the styling in the firm series to the Pulse. The women's styles embody a dynamic breather panel design and color patterns that reflect the concept of wrapping support around the arch and ankle. The styles designed for men have been simplified for a strong, clean look.

Essential Comfort

Two of my favorite additions to the Spring 2020 line are the women's Throwback and men's Tournament socks. These designs take us back to the authentic style of true rib and double basketball stripes. We turned the vintage icon into a fresh, modern design.

I cannot leave this post without mentioning another personal favorite of mine. Without bias, our Undercover socks are the only no-show socks from any brand that stays on my foot (and I've been in this industry for a looooong time). The seamless toe closure and heel construction make this a "must have this in my sock drawer for the rest of my life" type of sock.

I know we make "just socks," but one of the most satisfying aspects of my life is being able to affect the quality of someone's day by giving them a little more comfort in a design that is uplifting and beautiful.

Your feedback means everything to us. If you try any of our new (or existing) Spring 2020 styles, please write to us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and let us know about your experience with Sockwell.
